How Gallery Commission Works

When a gallery sells your work, they retain a percentage of the sale price as their commission. The remainder is your net earnings. Gallery commissions in the ceramics and craft world typically range from 30% to 50%, with 40% being the most common standard.

Two Modes of Calculation

From Retail Price

You know the retail price tag. The calculator tells you what you'll actually take home after the gallery and any platform fees.

From Target Earnings

You know what you need to earn per piece. The calculator works backward to find the retail price you must charge.

Platform Fees

Online selling platforms charge additional transaction fees on top of any gallery commission. Etsy charges approximately 6.5% transaction fee plus listing fees. If you sell through a gallery that also uses an online platform, both fees apply. The calculator lets you stack multiple percentage deductions to see your true net.
